Observation of Partition Remembrance Day Organised by: Sammilani Teachers’ Training College Date of Event: 14th August 2026 Time: 1:00 p.m. onwards Venue: College Seminar Hall Introduction Sammilani Teachers’ Training College solemnly observed Partition Remembrance Day on 14th August 2026 held in the college Seminar Hall from 1:00 p.m. onwards. The program served as a day of remembrance for the partition of Bengal. It highlighted the immense sufferings, hardships, and displacement endured by the people of West Bengal. The event was hosted by the respected Principal of the college, Dr. Dipanwita Dasgupta Ghosh. Dignitaries and Guest Speakers * Sri Kanti Ganguly: Representing the parent body of the institution, Sri Kanti Ganguly graced the occasion as a main guest. He shared foundational insights into the community's history, the struggle for rehabilitation, and the enduring resilience of the people. * Sri Buddhadeb Ghosh (Jadavpur University): Present as a primary guest speaker, he brought academic depth to the program, sharing insights derived from his deep research knowledge on the partition of Bengal. Key Highlights Sri Buddhadeb Ghosh ( A Researcher on partition of Bengal himself)delivered a detailed and moving speech on the partition, focusing heavily on its root causes and human costs. The core aspects of his address included: * Focus on Communalism: Sri Ghosh provided an analytical breakdown of how communalism was used to divide populations, detailing its destructive impact that ultimately led to the chaotic partition of Bengal under British rule. * Research-Backed Details: Drawing from his extensive research, he highlighted the painful experiences of displacement, unexpected loss of ancestral homes, and the economic challenges thrust upon West Bengal during the influx of refugees. * Quotes from Eminent Personalities: To underscore the emotional and social scars of 1947, Sri Ghosh quoted very important and eminent personalities, using their historical words to illustrate the sacrifices of those who faced the consequences of the partition. Event Proceedings * Inaugural Address & National Song: The program commenced at 1:00 p.m. with an introductory address by the host, Principal Dr. Dipanwita Dasgupta Ghosh. Following this, our students led the assembly in singing the national song, Vande Mataram, setting a solemn and patriotic tone for the day. * Felicitation Ceremony: The invited dignitaries, Sri Kanti Ganguly and Sri Buddhadeb Ghosh, were formally welcomed and felicitated by our students. * Parent Body Address: Sri Kanti Ganguly addressed the assembly, emphasizing the role of future educators in preserving true historical memory and building a society free from divisive forces. * Academic Discussion: Following Sri Ghosh’s presentation, student-teachers engaged with the concepts of long-term cultural adaptation and social campaigns that shaped post-independence West Bengal. * Vote of Thanks: An official vote of thanks was delivered by the IQAC Coordinator, Monalisa Chakraborty, who expressed gratitude to the guests, management, and participants for making the event a success. * National Anthem: The program concluded smoothly on a high patriotic note with the collective singing of the National Anthem by all dignitaries, faculty, and students. * A Bengali Movie Screening was made titled" MEGHE DHAKA TARA" directed by Ritwik Ghatak. Conclusion The observation at Sammilani Teachers’ Training College successfully bridged historical research with community memory.
