Teacher Education in India: A Challenge of the Hour...

These studies collectively reveal that teacher education in India faces a multidimensional crisis involving corruption, commercialization, quality decline, unemployment, and digital precarity. While institutional expansion and technological integration (Al, STEAM, blended learning) offer new opportunities, gaps in infrastructure, skills, and ethical frameworks persist. Scholars highlight issues like weak practical training, lack of inclusivity, and mismatch between training and employment. At the same time, approaches such as Guru-Shishya mentorship, apprenticeship models, sustainability, and parental involvement emphasize holistic development. Overall, there is a strong call for regulatory reform, ethical governance, digital readiness, and context-sensitive, reflective teacher preparation systems.
